INSIGHT AND CANDOUR FROM THE ATHLETES

Hosted by Upper Thames BC, Rowing Homecoming is designed to debrief events in Paris from both the Women's and Men's squads. If we get a collective total of 54 school rowers involved; the event will be hosted by 11 of the GB Olympic and Paralympic Squads.

Life lessons are learnt in triumph and adversity. We hope that we have medals to show but we know that the participants from your school will get to learn what life is like as an elite athlete.

You get to ask questions and then pose for photos with the GB Rowers before you get to show them what you can do.

TRAINING SESSIONS WITH THE ATHLETES

Rowing Homecoming provides your team with a range of fun activities with tips from the athletes; starting with an erg relays.

Then take to either an eight, six of you joined by two GB Rowers, or in a Quad where three of you have your own GB Rower. We then get you out on the water to show the GB Rowers what you have got. We will be using Eights and Quads provided by Upper Thames BC, no need to bring any equipment.

The 40 minute session will culminate in a 300 metre sprint where you take on the

ultimate Rowing challenge...Beat the Medallist.

THE BEAT THE MEDALLIST CHALLENGE

Designed to help fundraising.

During the peak time of the day the GB Rowers will set a time in the Quad and in the Eight, for you to try and beat.

You get time bonuses linked to the fundraising you are doing for your chosen good cause.

Signed prizes on the day from the GB Rowers for the top boats.

THE SOCIAL IMPACT

The purpose of the day and why the athletes are attending is designed for your school  to work with GB Athletes across many sports to support YOUR CHOSEN GOOD CAUSE. (Again where we say school it equally applies to your Club).

Homecoming Fundraising Target:

  • £200 per person

(we suggest that any surplus could be put towards sports provision at school)

The standard fee per person on our regular VIP Rowing Days is £75 per person, so a School could levy that for the chosen to help with the fundraising target.

We are looking at teams of three for the Quad and Six for the Eights, again remind you that the pupils would be joined by by GB Rowers in these boats.

Fundraising support given throughout the lead up.

  • Each school team will have their own Crowdfunding page linked to www.crowdfunder.co.uk/gbcharitydays .

  • Each donor gets the chance to win Athlete Prizes and Memorabilia.

  • Fundraising can be aided by utilising the parental network to get their companies to attend the days Homecoming event selling packages at a premium to them.(No need to buy places upfront).

  • This will also mean that the pupils will be able to meet other GB Medallists during the day and the Parents also get to take on the Beat the Medallist challenges. See here for details.

  • Each school can download the existing brochure and add their own contact details to accept payments. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/0snawuadnoa45eu2zvnve/h?rlkey=cwfci8fzgp2h581qezx9m3ybw&dl=0

  • You can also auction off the regular VIP Days across the whole sports, or sell them at a premium.

  • The above two points can always be used for separate general fundraising for the school at any time during 2024/5.

Since 2012 charities have sold places on Experience Days with GB Athletes, passing on the entry fees received at auction and banking the donations. Every entry fee is multiplied in value through this process. Last Autumn it was by 241%.

Happy to talk through this prior to signing up your school team, email david@legacy300.com to arrange a convenient time to call.
